J. L. Thomas, Jr.
"Foots" "Hoss"
Savannah - J.L. Thomas, Jr. "Foots" "Hoss", 74, died Monday, March 27, 2006 at Hospice Savannah.
The Effingham County native retired from C.S.X. Railroad after 36 years and was a member of the Local #1031 U.T.U. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and attended the Oak Grove Church of Christ.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, J.L. Thomas, Sr. and Lucille Grovenstein Thomas.
Survivors include his wife, Lona Floyd Thomas of Savannah; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip Raymond Thomas and Michelle of Wetumpka, AL, and Stephen Lee Thomas and Paula of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; 7 grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer, Amber, Phillip, II, Theresa, Angelina, and Alexis; sister, Yvonne Thomas Coleman of Augusta; 3 nieces; several great-nieces; and a great-nephew.
Graveside funeral services were 11 a.m. Thursday, March 30, 2006 at Springfield Cemetery Annex.

Lorraine Donovan
Ellabell- Lorraine Donovan, 73, died on Thursday, March 30, 2006 at her home.
Born in Jamaica, NY, Lorraine Donovan had lived in Bryan County GA for the past 30 years. She was of the Catholic faith and was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Victor & Matilda Mary Stampf Williams.
Survivors include her nine children and their spouses, Richard & Jean Donovan of Fort Myers, FL, Irene & Barry Gallo of Riverhead, NY, Patrice & John Hernandez of Wading River, NY, Ellen & Aaron Walker, Jr. of Ellabell, Susan & Frederick Weber of Southold, NY, Charles Anthony Donovan of Richmond Hill, John & Teresa Donovan of Fleming, Michael & Tammy Donovan of Faulkville and Amy & Joseph Fiorenza of Huntersville, NC; 20 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, a niece; a nephew; a great-niece and a great-nephew.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2006 in the chapel of the funeral home.
Interment was in Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.

Lorene Heidt Rountree
Springfield - Lorene Heidt Rountree, 84, died Thursday, March 29, 2006 at her residence.
The Effingham County native was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, W.E.L.C.A., and taught Sunday School. She was a retired Elementary School Teacher, member of Delta Kappa Gama, Beta Theta Chapter, the Retired Teacher’s Association, American Legion Auxillary, and the Clyo Homemaker’s. She was a volunteer with Effingham Hospital Auxillary and drove for Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Meredith and Jerry Arnsdorff of Rincon, and Sophie and Jerry Freyermuth of Springfield; son and daughter-in-law, Carey A. and Janet Rountree of Marietta; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Runelle Scott of Marlow; and sister-in-law, Daisy Heidt of Marlow; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were 4 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2006 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Joseph Copeck officiating. Pallbearers were Jeffrey Heidt, Horace Wimberly, Jr., Bryan Rountree, Buddy Heidt, Charles Hinely, and Darwin Exley.
Interment was in Springfield Cemetery Annex.
Remembrances may be given to Holy Trinitly Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 353, Springfield, GA 31329.

Linda Heidt Proctor
Guyton - Linda Heidt Proctor, 62, died Friday, March 31, 2006 at Hospice Savannah.
The Chatham County native was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and formerly worked as a waitress. She was preceeded in death by her son, Billy Miller.
Survivors include her husband, William E. Powell, Jr., daughter, Yolanda Miller, 3 sisters and 4 brothers-in-law, Margaret and Henry Hall, Diane and Thomas Counts, Mary and James Johnson all of Guyton, and Frank Proctor of Hardeeville; and many other relatives including a special niece, Brittany Powell.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2006 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Rick Sebastian officiating. Pallbearers were her nephews.
Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hazel B. Hales
Faulkville - Mrs. Hazel B. Hales, 77, died on Thursday, March 30, 2006, at her home.
Born in Bryan County, Mrs. Hales had lived in Faulkville for a number of years. She was a member of the Meldrim United Methodist Church where she attended the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. Mrs. Hales retired from Union Camp after 42 years of faithful service. She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Hales and a daughter, Deneise H. Faulk.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Renee H. & Ron Richardson of Meldrim; foster son, James "Sandy" Sanders of Meldrim; son-in-law, William H. Faulk of Faulkville; grandchildren, Nicole Jackson of Faulkville, Johnny & Greta Coleman of Clyo; great-grandchildren, Will Jackson of Faulkville, Jaci Coleman and John Daniel Coleman, both of Clyo; siblings, Frances Wilson, Maebelle Larrimore and Chester Brown, all of Ellabell and Tommie Minor of Columbus; a number of nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law.
Funeral Services were held on Sunday, April 2, 2006, in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Meldrim.
Remembrances may be given to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
