Pleasure Is For A Season
by Gary Toole, Minister
I was listening to this preacher's sermon and he said that sin is fun. Sin is pleasurable, but we must resist the temptation to sin. True! But, he fell bad short. The truth is this - sin according to the Word of God, is pleasurable (fun) for a season. For a short while and then, believe you me, pleasure turns to pain. Fun turns sour and so called fun is longer fun. About midway of getting drunk, I would ask someone, "Are we having fun yet?" In other words, "Call it fun if you want to, but let me tell you flat out, 'It almost destroyed my life and had it not been for the mercy of God, because of the prayers of saintly folks and because God had a job for me, then alcohol would have literally killed me!'"
Let's tell it like it is! There's really no fun in the garbage of this old world. This word, "Fun", is like the word, "Happiness." It's all temporal! Just for a season, but living for God brings joy (eternal joy), it brings peace and gladness! Priceless-wonderful blessings of God that make everything else in life cheap. Cheap fun! Living the cheap-cruddy life! Thank God that true pleasure lies in knowing Him. Now, that's the good life! Can you say amen?

Giving for Eternity
By Nicholas A. Kennicott

“‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.” Malachi 3:10NIV

I heard a story once of a guy who went to church with his family. As they were driving home afterwards he was complaining about everything. He said, “The music was too loud. The sermon was too long. The announcements were unclear. The building was hot. The people were unfriendly.” He went on and on, complaining about virtually everything. Finally, his very observant son said, “Dad, you’ve got to admit it wasn’t a bad show for just a dollar.”
Does your giving reflect greatness? Probably not, according to statistics; In American Churches the breakdown of giving shows that 20% of the members give 80% of all funds, 30% of the members give the other 20% and 50% of the members give nothing – ever!
Did you know that we are nothing more than God’s asset managers? He has entrusted His people with what we can use to further the work of His kingdom, yet seldom is this accomplished.
The most striking characteristic of the early Christians is that they shared all they owned, liquidating their money and possessions to give to the needy (Acts 2:44-45, 4:32-37). We are told in one verse that “much grace was upon them all,” and in the next, “There were no needy persons among them.” Radical giving demonstrates the life-changing power of God.
Most Christians would agree that giving to the church is Biblically required, just as holiness, love, and prayer are, for example. Yet, most Christians have performed their worldly duty – hoarding and buying, leaving nothing for the Lord and His work. We have become masters of storing up earthly treasures when we should instead be concerned about our treasures in heaven – after all, that’s where we shall spend eternity, right? God entrusts us with his money not to build our kingdoms on earth, but to build His in heaven.
If only we could all adopt the attitude of John Wesley when he said, “money never stays with me. It would burn me if it did. I throw it out of my hands as soon as possible, lest it should find its way into my heart.” What destructive lives we lead when riches rule our hearts. When we look at money only as money, and not in light of its impact on eternity, we walk away with a cloudy and shortsighted vision.
Many Christians say, “I know it is right to tithe, but I can’t start right now – I can’t afford it.” To procrastinate obedience is to disobey God. Trust Him to help you begin the life-changing, eternity-impacting adventure of giving. Not only will it please God beyond belief, it will be an exciting time in your life to sit back and watch the floodgates of heaven pour out blessings on you!
