Q & A – With Pastor Larry
Question: While reading through Proverbs recently, I came across a verse I don’t understand. It says to do good to certain people when it is due them. What does this mean? Aren’t we supposed to do good to everyone?
Answer: You are referring to the verse in Proverbs 3:27 where it says, “Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it”. This is a great verse of scripture that will bless you in many, many ways.
Kindness is a rare gift to us. When someone does something nice for us we should look for ways to return that act of kindness to them and keep the blessing moving forward. Take a moment and think of ten people in your life who bless you. Ask God to bring these people to your mind; you may be surprised who He brings into your mind. These are the people you need to bless and show an act of kindness toward immediately.
One way to “not withhold good to them when it is due” is to simply pick up the telephone and call them and TELL them that they are a blessing in your life and that your life is better because of your relationship with them. Often times, it is just what they need to hear at that moment; don’t let those moments pass without action when God’s Spirit speaks to your heart about that special someone.
Here are six little facts to remember about showing kindness to someone special in your life. 1. Everybody wants to be appreciated. 2. It only takes a moment to show appreciation to someone. 3. You don’t have to spend a lot of money. 4. Never take lightly the kindness someone shows toward you. 5. Learn to speak words of blessing, encouragement and gratitude to other people in your circle of life.  6. People do not forget those who meet this basic need in their lives. This is God’s way of returning the blessings back to you.
Action for the week: Ask God to bring the names of ten people into your mind who need to be blessed by a word of encouragement from you. Call them or right them right now; don’t wait or you may not do it at all. As we say in church, “this is the word in action”
