Regarding Spirit Newspapers Missing From The Hospital....
Dear Editor,
It has come to my attention that the Spirit Newspapers that are distributed to the residents and patients at Effingham Hospital and Care Center have been confiscated by staff members on the say so of Norma Jean Morgan earlier this week. I find this to be a gross infringement on the rights of the residents and patients as well as the freedoms of the press and I thought you may like to know this and possibly look into it further.
According to my sources, since Ms. Morgan has taken over administration, no positive noticeable changes have been put into effect thus far; however, the negative energy that she has brought into the hospital and nursing home has definitely been noticed and is having a detrimental effect on both employees and residents/patients.

Rachel
Springfield

Dear Rachel,
Thanks for your letter. We also received two telephone calls about our papers being taken from the rack we have in the lobby of the hospital. One caller suggested that I contact Ms. Morgan and have her explain in our paper why she doesn’t believe visitors and patients should be allowed to read The Spirit.
I decided against that. Instead, I’ve put in a call to the Association of Free Community Papers, and I’ll let their lawyers have Ms. Morgan explain it on the stand.
Thanks to all who’ve brought this to our attention,
-Editor

Regarding A Hometown Hero....
Dear Editor,
I would like to tell you about a lady that goes above and beyond to help people in our community here in Pooler, Meldrim and all the surrounding neighborhoods.  I met this lady about 3 years ago when she started coming to our church with her daughter.  It didn’t take long to get to know she loved life and people. So many times she has went out of her way to help kids, teenagers, and adults.
The weddings she’s helped make beautiful are numerous, the bridal showers and anniversaries are too many to count. She’s the type of person that, if you have a problem and she knew it, she  will help if she can. You see she moved here as a young girl and met the love of her life Henry O’Neal. Some people  know him as Mr. Dew!  They got married and stared raising a family, Shannon their first and then came Bubba!!!!
Thru the years I understand a lot of kids have lived around a drum with a fire in their back yard and had many talks at night with Mr. Henry and Mrs. Wanda.    Shannon has had a lot of her friends also with her. You see there were driving lessons given by none other than you guessed it, ...Bubba! Especially the front wheel drive ones.
You see there are very few people today that take the time to do what these two have and still do. They now have grandchildren and are loving every minute of it. I do want to say you two are very special people and keep being the way you are!!!!!    They also get to do all over again what they did before.
There’s a shop in Pooler that is outstanding. These ladies are true friends and sisters. My hats off to them! Please stay the way you are because you bless so many people without knowing it!!!
Last year, I was going through some bad times and she was there for me. She helped me realize that I could face each day and be glad to be alive. I want to thank her for that because so many times people don’t realize what other people are going through. Wanda did and she went to work and did what God put in her heart to do as so many times before. If Wanda has helped or touched your life in some way please let her know in some way.
Sometimes we don’t let the people we love know how we feel and I believe we should.  If  Wanda has touched your life in any way, stop by Hair Creations and let her know or give her a call or note. That goes for the other girls too!! They’re a team!!!  and so many times we wait too late.
THANKS WANDA!!!!!!!!!!

Ms. Lil Strickland

Dear Ms. Strickland,
Thanks for taking the time to recognize someone who means so much in our community, and thanks for using the Spirit to do that!
