Jacqueline Benn Johnson
Rincon - Jacqueline Benn Johnson, 74, died Friday, January
27, 2006 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
The Joplin, Missouri native was a member of St. John’s
Lutheran Church for 26 years, W.E.L.C.A., and was a former
secretary for Lutheran Brotherhood. She and her husband
founded Johnson Land Surveying Company in which they owned
until 2002 and was a former member of the Garden Club. She
was preceeded in death by her husband, Harold R. Johnson,
and son, Harold A. Johnson.
Survivors include her daughter, Marguerite G. Johnson of
Rincon; 2 sons, Kenneth N. Johnson of Claxton and Charles M.
Johnson; 3 grandchildren, Madison R. Johnson, Brady S.
Johnson, and Savannah Renee’ Johnson all of Rincon.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at
St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor J. Patrick Finley
officiating.
Interment was in Rincon Cemetery.
Remembrances may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church
Building Fund, P.O. Box 270, Rincon, GA 31326.

Norman E. "Gene" Archer
Norman E. "Gene" Archer, 84, died Saturday,
January 28, 2006 at Satilla Regional Medical Center in
Waycross.
The Effingham County native was a longtime resident of
Savannah where he was a member of Bull Street Baptist
Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, was a
Brickmason, and member of the Bricklayers Union. He was
preceeded in death by his parents, Thomas Franklin Archer
and Gertrude Sigman Archer.
Survivors include his wife, Toni Lee Archer of Bayview
Nursing Home in Nahunta; daughter and son-in-law, Dale
Archer Davis and Wank Davis of St. Simons; son, Randy Archer
of Savannah; and granddaughter, Kellie Davis of Brunswick.
Graveside funeral services were 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, January
31, 2006 at Turkey Branch Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev.
Jim Crandall officiating.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be given to American
Cancer Society, 1930 Springfield-Egypt Rd., Springfield, GA
31329 or Turkey Branch Baptist Church, P.O. Box 462,
Springfield, GA 31329.

Mrs. Doris June Shiver
Guyton – Mrs. Doris June Shiver, 81, died Tuesday, January
24, 2006 at Memorial Hospital.
The Cobbtown, Georgia native was a homemaker, a member of
the Effingham County Senior Citizens and of the Baptist
faith.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Horne
and Wayne Smith of Guyton; Margaret Ann Landrum &
Kenneth of Live Oak, FL; Stephanie Lee Feagle of Gainsville,
FL; son, James Peter Spergon of Rock Springs, Wyoming ; 12
grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 1
great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2006 in
the funeral home chapel. Reverend Royce Hendry officiated.

Mr. James Durell Williams
James Durell Williams, 86, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2006, after a
brief illness.
James moved to Pembroke from Ellaville, Georgia in 2000 to live with his
daughter. He was a retired accountant, and was preceded in death by his wife,
Juanita Pope Williams and a son, Randall Williams.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Lenore P. Zipperer and
Robert of Candler, NC, MarChelle A. Youmans and Robert Marshall of Pembroke,
Patrick D. Williams and Joyce of Winston-Salem, NC, and Marty D. Williams of
Mobile, AL; and seven grandchildren, Brittney Zipperer and Heston Zipperer of
North Carolina, Samantha Anderson, Taylor Anderson, and Dakota Youmans of
Pembroke, Ford Williams and Parker Williams of North Carolina.
Private memorial services were held by immediate family.
Riggs Funeral Home in Guyton, Georgia, was in charge of all arrangements.
Mrs. Nell C. Proctor
Mrs. Nell Carter Proctor passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2006, at
Azalealand Nursing Home, after a long illness.
Mrs. Proctor was 89 years old and a native of Savannah. She had resided in
Garden City for over 50 years. She was formerly employed with Union Camp and
retired from Western Auto. She was a charter member of Woodlawn Baptist Church
in Garden City for many years. Nell was preceded in death by her husband,
Lester Proctor, her daughters and son-in-law, Patty and Jim Carey and Elaine
Anderson, along with her sister Christine Weeks and two brothers, Alvin Carter
and Wade Carter.
Survivors include four granddaughters and sons-in-law, Maria and Barry DeLoach,
Patricia and Buddy Newbern, Stacey Carey and Susan and Randy Moore; eight
great-grandchildren, Ashley, Casey, and Haley DeLoach, Sean and Travis Foster,
Kristin Carey, Missy Padgett, Jamie and Lindsy Loven; two
great-great-grandsons, Dillon and Trevor Loven; and several nieces and
nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Azalealand Nursing Home for the
love and care they gave to their grandmother.
Funeral services were held at 1 PM on Saturday, January 28 in the chapel of
the funeral home. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Grace Floyd Durrence
Mrs. Grace Floyd Durrence, 83, entered eternal rest on Thursday, January 26,
2006, surrounded by her family at Hospice Savannah.
The native of Bulloch County, Georgia, was a long-time resident of Faulkville
in Effingham County. She was employed by the Effingham County Board of
Education as a school bus driver for 35 years. She was a member of
Bloomingdale First Baptist Church where she served in various capacities. She
took great joy in caring for the nursery babies. She was a member of the
Fidelis Sunday School Class and the Joy Club. She attained a perfect
attendance Sunday School record of 48 years. Mrs. Durrence was a member of the
Georgia School Bus Driver's Association where she served as past
vice-president and president. She was a member of the American Gourd Society
and a charter member of the Georgia Gourd Society. Grace was preceded in death
by her parents, Harley Floyd and Mary Starling Floyd, and her brother, Carol
Floyd, Sr.
Survivors include her loving husband of 64 years, Luther L. Durrence of
Faulkville; her dedicated sons and daughters-in-law, Levoughn and Pat Durrence
of Meldrim and Derral and Charlotte Durrence of Springfield; five
grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, January 29 at Bloomingdale
First Baptist Church. Rev. Darrell Bailey, Rev. Richard Sizemore, and Rev.
Peter Vermeullen officiated. Burial followed at Lawrence Baptist Church
Cemetery in Bulloch County.

Mr. William "Bill" H. McCauley
Mr. William H. McCauley, 64, died Friday, January 27, 2006, at Hospice
Savannah.
The Arkansas native was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church. He served his
country in the US Navy. While in the Navy, he was an aviation electrician and
a radio operator. He was a model airplane enthusiast, was active in the Boy
Scouts, was a past president of Hendrix Park Recreation Association, and
coached Little League Baseball in Bryan County.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Kathleen McCauley of Ellabell; son and
daughter-in-law, Robert and Kelli McCauley of Ellabell; grandchildren, Bailey
and Riley McCauley of Ellabell; mother, Opal Armstrong of Bentonville, AR;
sister, Faye Cray of Bentonville, AR; brothers, Terry McCauley of Rogers, AR
and Mark Seratt of Arkansas; brother-in-law, James Johnson of Pembroke; and
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 AM on Monday, January 30 in the chapel of the
funeral home. Interment was at Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery with
military honors.
