Obituaries
Wyman O. Mercer
Rincon - Wyman O. Mercer, 74, died Saturday, June 24, 2006 at Candler Hospital.
The Dublin native was a longtime resident of Port Wentworth, member of Port Wentworth First Baptist Church for 24 years where he was a Deacon, served on the building committee, and several pulpit committees. He was a member of the Port Wentworth Lions Club, active in Port Wentworth Elementary School, Groves High School, and the P.T.A. He moved to Rincon in 1976 and was a member of First Baptist Church of Rincon, was a Deacon, and served on numerous committees. He retired from Union Camp in 1992 after 42 years of service and was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was well known and will be remembered for his good humor.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Jean Heller Mercer of Rincon; 2 daughters, Wanda Murray (Kent) of Statesboro and Ivy Bishop (Gary) of Hillsborough, NC; 5 grandchildren, Bryan (Jennifer) and Joshua Douberly, Tanaya Farr (Brian), Jonah and Hannah Bishop; 4 great-grandchildren, Amber Hilton, Caleb Douberly, Erika Douberly, and Brian Farr, Jr.; sister, Betty Fort of Satellite Beach, FL; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Rincon.
Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Remembrances may be given to First Baptist Church of Rincon Building Fund, 201 E. 6th Street, Rincon, GA 31326.

Thomas Odell Triplett, Sr.
Rincon - Thomas Odell Triplett, Sr., 71, went to be with the Lord on June 23, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Tom was born March 11, 1935 in Watauga County, North Carolina. He retired from Citizens & Southern National Bank after 34 years of service. He served in the Georgia House of Representatives for 18 years and was the Chairman of the House Transportation Committee. He served as member of the Governors Judicial Nominating Commission and on the World Congress Overview Committee and the Policy Committee. He served on the Department of Transportation Board for 10 years and formerly served on Congressman Max Burns Congressional Staff. He was Former Mayor and Councilman for the City of Portwentworth, former member of the Chatham Savannah Board of Education, and was on the Memorial Medical University Hospital Authority Board. Tom was a member of First Baptist Church of Rincon and teacher of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
To honor some of his many accomplishments in the community, Chatham County designated a park on Highway 80 in Pooler as Tom Triplett Park and more recently named a section of Highway 21 Tom Triplett Parkway.
He was preceeded in death by his mother, Irene Triplett, and 2 sons, Grant and Brian Triplett.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Judy Lancaster Triplett; one son, Thomas Odell Triplett, Jr. (Tommy) his wife Gay Mann Triplett and 2 grandchildren, Hunter Triplett and Ansley Triplett of Rincon; his father, Rev. Carl Triplett of Kingsport, TN; 2 sisters, Martha Trent (Dean) of Kingsport, TN, and Mary Dunn (David) of Westpoint, GA; 3 brothers, William Triplett (Becky) of Sylvania, Howard Triplett (Frances) of Danridge, TN, and Charles Triplett (Joy) of Morristown, TN; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Pete and Loretta Lancaster, Tommy and Carolyn Lancaster, Lemuel and Judy Lancaster, Tommy and Winnie Ennis, and Newel Kessler; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were 2 P.M. Sunday, June 25, at First Baptist Church of Rincon with Rev. Bob Rogers officiating. Pallbearers were Bill Grainger, Scott Wood, Gary Priester, Harry Shearouse, Max Burns, Jimmy Deloach, Billy Tyson, and Herb Jones. Honorary pallbearers were the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Interment was in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Henry Truett Edwards
Guyton - Henry Truett Edwards, 83, died Sunday, June 25, 2006 at Memorial Health.
The Emanuel County native was a U.S. Army veteran and member of the American Legion Post #209. He retired from Union Camp in 1985 and was former owner/operator of Ed’s Trucking Company and Edwards Take-Out and Restaurant.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, Joseph Jackson and Maggie Truett Edwards, and daughter, Brenda Gail Edwards.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Alice S. Edwards of Guyton; daughter, Sherry A. Edwards of Guyton; two sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Edwards, Randy and Cindy Edwards of Rincon; three grandchildren, David W. Stanhope, Mandi D. Edwards, and Jana A. Edwards of Rincon; four brothers, Jack Edwards of Springfield, George Edwards of Flemming, Wallace Edwards of Waycross, and Rev. Bennie Edwards of Dublin; sister, Nellie Butler of Greenwood, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Wednesday, June 28, 2006 in the chapel with Rev. Bennie Edwards and Rev. Chris Roberson officiating. Pallbearers were Ben Edwards, Wilson Lawson, Walter Lawson, Bobby Edwards, Keith Edwards, Tommy Edwards, and Brian Campbell.
Interment was in Effingham Memorial Gardens.
Remembrances may be given to Pine Street Baptist Building Fund, P.O. Box 125, Guyton, GA 31312.

Avis Hinely Zettler
Springfield- Avis Hinely Zettler, 91, died June 27, 2006 at Effingham Extended Care Facility.
The Effingham County native was a member of Oak Grove Church of Chirst.
Survivors include son, Barry (Beth) Zettler of Springfield; grandchildren, Steve (Shea) Zettler and Sharon (Dean) Holland, all of Springfield; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jared Holland, and Rebekah Zettler.
Graveside Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2006 in Springfield Cemetery with Rev. John Lampp officiating.
Remembrances may be sent to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.

Mrs. Kay E. Martin
Bloomingdale - Mrs. Kay E. Martin, 68, died on Sunday, June 25, 2006, at Hospice Savannah surrounded by her family
Born in Appling County, Mrs. Martin had lived in Bloomingdale for a number of years. She was a homemaker and a member of Faulkville Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Royce Martin of Bloomingdale; son, Gary Anderson of Midway; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy & Glenn Pope of Bloomingdale; granddaughters, April Pope of Pooler and Amanda Priester of Pooler; mother, Macy Mallard of Bloomingdale; sister, Patsy Ritter of Bloomingdale; brother, Donnie Thomas of Rincon and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral to honor Mrs. Martin's life was held on Wednesday, June 28, 2006, in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Darnell Barner officiating. Active pallbearers were Eddie Cox, Ron Ritter, Shane Priester, James Green, Alan Burnham and Chris Gunn. Honorary Pallbearers were Ray Roberson, Gene Redding, Rayford Thomas, Tex Ritter, Joey Thomas and Patton Thomas. Interment followed in Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.

Philip Jackson Moore
Springfield - Philip Jackson Moore, 68, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Moore was a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and a retired Truck Driver.
Survivors include; three daughters, Carolyn Moore of Springfield, Diane Moore of Blufton, SC, and Paula Jackson of Gastonia, NC; one brother, Rufus Moore of Three Rivers, TX; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held at a later day.
Riggs Funeral Home in Guyton was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Charlie Ray Turnbow, Sr.
Port Wentworth - Mr. Charlie Ray Turnbow, Sr., 37, died Sunday, June 25, 2006, in Jacksonville, FL.
He was a native of Martin, TN, having lived in Port Wentworth most of his life and was a Commercial Fisherman employed with Woods Seafood Co.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Eloise and James Woods of Port Wentworth; eight children, Charlie Ray Turnbow, Jr., Stephen Turnbow, Justin Turnbow, Christopher Turnbow, Mikaela Turnbow, Tamra Turnbow, Michael Turnbow and Jesse Turnbow; one sister, Tina Newman; two brothers, Georgia Turnbow and Tim Turnbow and other relatives.
Memorial Services were held on Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Fountain Funeral Home.
Fountain Funeral Home in Port Wentworth was in charge of all arrangements.

Mrs. Deborah Newman Brown
Sylvania - Mrs. Deborah Brown, 49, died on Monday, June 26, 2006, at Candler Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Brown was born in Bulloch County and had lived in Blitchton for most of her life before moving to Sylvania two years ago. She attended Farmdale Baptist Church and was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Brown.
Survivors include her children, Kevin Newman of Savannah, Crystal Mohn and Kelly Newman, bother of St. Louis, Missouri; mother, Betty Daley of Savannah; father, J.C. Brown of Sylvania; four grandchildren; sister, Pam Sapp of Claxton; one niece, one nephew, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral to honor Mrs. Brown's life was held on Friday, June 30, 2006, in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Kenny Harrelson officiating. Interment followed at Friendship Baptist Church in Bulloch County.
