Rincon - Conley A.
Gerrald, 88, died Friday, October 27,
2006 at Effingham Extended Care
Facility.
The Bulloch County
native was a member of First Baptist
Church of Rincon where he was a Deacon
Emeritus and a member of Rincon Lions
Club. He retired from Rollison
Engineering and Savannah Shipyard and
was a member of Local #508 Electrical
Union.
Survivors include his
daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and
Stanley Walker of Rincon; son and
daughter-in-law, Michael and Vikki
Gerrald of Springfield; 5
grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 8
great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois
NeSmith of Statesboro; and a number of
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were
11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2006 at First
Baptist Church of Rincon. Pallbearers
were Nicholas Gerrald, Graham Gerrald,
Aaron Shipman, Ashley Gerrald, Ike
Wright, and Lewis Wright. Rev. Bob
Rogers and Rev. J. Barry Owens
officiated.
Interment followed in
Rincon Cemetery.

Cynthia Marie Hubbard
Saxon, 55, died Saturday, October 28,
2006 at her residence.
She lived all her life
in Savannah and was a Baptist.
She was employed at ABC Supply
Company.
Survivors include her
husband of 40 years, Herman Saxon;
mother, Mrs. Mildred Brunner Hubbard
of Garden City; brother, James
“Jimmy” Hubbard of Savannah; four
sisters, Pat Pinyon of Garden City,
Donna Brown of Savannah, Mary Warman
of Garden City, Joan Ruiz of
Douglasville, GA; several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral Services will
be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Nov.
02, 2006 in the Chapel of the
Fairhaven Funeral Home.
Burial will be in
Hillcrest West Cemetery.

Edenfield “Ernie”
Pembroke-Erik Charles
Edenfield “Ernie” age 19 of
Pembroke was suddenly called to be
with his heavenly father on Thursday,
October 19, 2006. Ernie was born on
August 28, 1987 at Hilton Head
Hospital to his parents Michael Dennis
Edenfield and Barbara Wheeler
Edenfield. He was a 2006 graduate of
Bryan County High School. His passion
was football. Ernie, #64 of the Bryan
County High School Redskins, was First
Team Region 3A, Offensive Line and
Defensive Line in November 2005. He
was baptized in the First Baptist
Church of Pembroke. Ernie was a very
special young man and will be sorely
missed by everyone who knew him.
Survivors include his
parents Michael and Barbara Edenfield
of Pembroke; one sister Brandi
Edenfield of Statesboro; paternal
grandparents Dick and Dicy Edenfield
of Ellabell; maternal grandmother
Elverna A. Wheeler and the late
Charles Henry Wheeler of Pittsburgh,
PA; several aunts, uncles, and
cousins.
Saturday at the funeral
home. Funeral services were held at 3
P.M. Sunday at Morrison Memorial
Chapel with Rev. Jim Correll
officiating. Burial was private.

Honarary Pallbearers. In lieu of

Edenfield Scruggs
Ellabell-Mrs. Beulah
Edenfield Scruggs age 78 of Ellabell
died Monday morning, October 23, 2006
at St. Josephs after an extended
illness. Mrs. Scruggs was the manager
of McCrory’s five and dime soda
shop. She was a member of Calvary
Baptist Temple of Savannah, an avid
gardener, a great cook, loved to
crochet and do flower arrangements.
She is predeceased by her husband of
25 years Clinton J. Scruggs and her
daughter Vickie Scruggs.
Survivors include one
daughter and son-in-law Dianne and
Jimmy Futch of Pembroke; one son and
daughter-in-law Elton and Connie
Edenfield of Statesboro; two brothers
Edward Edenfield and Freddie Edenfield
both of Blitchton; three sisters Vera
Mae Bailey of Kite, Mandy Boyette of
Ellabell, and Dorothy Newman of
Savannah; six grandchildren and 5
great-grandchildren; several nieces,
nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services were
held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at Morrison
Memorial Chapel with Rev. Michael
Williams officiating. Burial was in
Bulloch Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Spencer Russell “Rusty” Bridges
Ellabell-Mr. Spencer Russell “Rusty” Bridges age 85 of
Ellabell, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2006 after a long illness. He was
surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and others that he loved and whom
he loved as his own children. He was born in Spencer, NC, but grew up in
Somerset,KY. Eventually he, his wife, and children settled in Savannah before
moving to Ellabell. Mr. Bridges was a veteran of WWII having served as a
liaison pilot in Burma, Southeast Asia. He was a retired truck driver from
Overnight Transportation Company, was a member of Epworth United Methodist
Church, and spent much of his last years working at Black Creek Golf Club,
close to his favorite pastime. He is predeceased by his wife Marian Hunt
Bridges.
Survivors include three sons and one daughter-in-law Storm
Russell and Barbara Bridges of Statesboro, Kerry Joe Bridges of Ellabell, and
Ralph Marion Bridges of Springfield; one daughter and son-in-law Martha
Bridges and Randal Bragg of Ellabell; one sister and brother-in-law Louise
Bridges and Howard Conley of Somerset, KY; three grandchildren Michael Bridges
and Christopher Charles Bragg of Ellabell and Jimmy Scott of Houston, TX;
three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 A.M. Thursday at Morrison
Memorial Chapel with Rev. Don Combs officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Abbey
West Cemetery. Grandsons served as Pallbearers. Morrison Funeral Home was in
charge of the arrangements.
Eloise Shepard McCranie
Eloise Shepard McCranie, 81, of Savannah, died Sunday, Oct 29,
2006 at Hospice Savannah, Inc.
She was born in Pierce County, Ga., and was preceded in death
by her husband, Dennis McCranie, Sr., and her son & daughter in law.
She was a retired Lab Technician, having worked for the late
Dr. McCormick at his Pathology Lab in Savannah.
She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where
she had formerly served in the Sanctuary Choir, the United Methodist Women,
the Administrative Board, the Pastor – Parish Committee, the Sunshine SS
Class, the Visitation Committee, and the Circle of Love.
She is survived by a son and daughter in law, John & Brenda
McCranie of Bloomingdale, Ga; 2 brothers, Ralph Shepard of Waycross, Ga;
and Jake Shepard of Jackson, Mississippi; a sister, Mary Hinely,
Springfield, Ga;
grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at
Aldersgate United Methodist Church, with Rev. Steve Meguiar, officiating.
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Carrie McNear Taylor Shuman
Carrie McNear Taylor Shuman, 90, died Tuesday, Oct 31, 2006 at
Riverview Nusing Home.
She was born Mar 22, 1916 in Tattnall County, Ga, the
daughter of Alfred Corbett McNear and Annie McCullough McNear, and was a
resident of Savannah since 1932. Her former husband, Thomas Willard
Taylor, preceded her in death.
Carrie was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. She was
an employee of Union Camp Golden Commissary for many years and was a co-owner
of two restaurants in Savannah; Carrie’s Luncheonette on Drayton
Street and Pizza Villa on Wilmington Island. Carrie’s children will
remember her as a wonderful mother, strong, determined and filled with faith
and trust in God.
Survivors: two daughters, Brenda T. Jacobs of Savannah
and Linda T. Green of Auburn, Alabama; a son, Thomas H. Taylor of Savannah; a
sister, Luvern M. Vandiver of Guyton, Ga; a brother, James A. McNear of
Savannah. Seven grandchildren; Linda D. Carson of Savannah, R. Steven
DuBois of Savannah, Ruskin C. Green of Brussels, Belgium, Thomas M. Taylor of
Atlanta, Ga, Hannah G. Cousar of Atlanta, Ga, Michael M. Taylor, and
Patricia M. Taylor of Savannah. Five great grandchildren: Ein
Brinson of Statesboro, Ga; R. Steven DuBois, Jr., and T. Alexander
DuBois of Savannah; Taylor C. Green and Jackson C. Green of Brussels, Belgium;
Olivia G.Cousar and B. Clegg Cousar of Atlanta.
Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m.
Thursday in the Chapel of Fairhaven Funeral Home, with Rev. Bob Tice and Rev.
Earnie Pirkle, officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Abbey
Memorial Park.

Sallie Mae Jones Griffis
Sallie Mae Jones Griffis, 93, passed away Tuesday afternoon,
October 24, 2006.
She was a native of Wayne County but lived most of her life in
Chatham County. She had been a resident of Westview Nursing and Rehab Center
for the past 4 years. Mrs. Griffis was a Christian and a longtime active
member of the Primitive Baptist Church of Garden City. She loved her church
family and enjoyed singing in the church choir for as long as her health
allowed. She loved music and played the piano by ear but never took piano
lessons. It was a joy to watch her crippled arthritic hands move along the
keys as she played beautiful Christian hymns- her favorite music. She was well
known as an avid gardener whose tender care for her plants insured season
after season of beautiful flowers. She worked as a seamstress in a shirt
factory for sixteen years before marriage. After her marriage she was a full
time homemaker and devoted her life to her family. She loved animals, but her
greatest love was for children, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Griffis was
preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Norris Johnnie Griffis, Sr., her
parents, Hiram Ezra Jones and Sallie Ann Yeomans Jones, and sisters, Ruth
Alafae Jones Bowen, Trudie Jones Strickland, and an infant sister Mattie
Thelma Jones.
She was the loving mother of two sons and a daughter, Norris
Johnnie Griffis, Jr. (Betty Addington) of Savannah, James Ezra Griffis (Elaine
Eaton Griffis) of Clyde, NC, and Janice Griffis Blakey (James Wesley Blakey)
of Garden City. She was the grandmother of nine children, the
great-grandmother of twenty children, and the great-great-grandmother of two
children.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 27 at 11 AM at
Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, West Chatham Chapel. Burial was
at Westside Memorial Gardens following the service.

Mrs. Mary Ellen DeVane Webb
Mrs. Mary Ellen DeVane Webb, 72, died Saturday, October 28,
2006, at Candler Hospital surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Webb was born in Madison County, Florida to the late James
Darling and Florence Odom DeVane. She was a homemaker and was preceded in
death by her husband, Max Webb and her son, James Douglas Webb.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha and
Randy Grovenstein of Pooler and Cathy and Robbie Montgomery of Ludowici;
grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Amanda and Stephen Bené and Jonah of
Baxley, Rebecca and Rick Yarbrough and Ansleigh and Gracie of Cleveland, GA,
Joanna and John VanArsdale and Nattie Jo and Nathan of Ludowici and Katie
Montgomery of Ludowici; sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Clyde Dyson of
Springfield; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 31
in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial followed at Midway United Methodist
Church Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, remembrances be
given to Gabriel’s House, 202 Darsey Road, Hinesville, GA 31313.

Mr. R. Lloyd Smith
Mr. R. Lloyd Smith, 78, died Saturday, October 28, 2006, at his
home.
Mr. Smith was born in South Carolina and had been employed with
American National Insurance Company for the past 51 years. He served his
country in the US Navy and enjoyed fishing, gardening, and being with his
family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly
missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Judy M. Smith of Pooler; children
and spouses, Brian K. and Dana Smith of Columbia, SC, Steven L. Smith of
Atlanta and Deanna and Davy Windsor of Bluffton, SC; grandchildren, Dustin
Smith, Samantha Willis, Katie Willis, and David Windsor, II; siblings, Fred C.
and Mary Smith of Hampton, SC, Frank and Sally Smith of Varnville, SC,
Harrison and Betty Jean Smith of Ridgeland, Annette and Howard Brown of
Varnville, SC, Shirley and Francis Long of Estill, SC, Pauline Stanley of
Varnville, SC, Elaine and Benjamin Ginn of Estill, and Elise ad Jimmy Long of
Monks Corner, SC; sisters-in-law, Hilda Hanks of Charlotte, NC and Martha
Medders of Thomasville; brother-in-law, Donald Medders of Woodstock; and many,
many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 12 noon on Tuesday, October 31 in
the chapel of the funeral home. Burial followed at Sandy Run Cemetery in
Hampton, South Carolina.

Kimberly Sowell Waldschmidt
Kimberly Sowell Waldschmidt, 37, died Wednesday, October 18,
2006, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.
Kim was born June 3, 1969. After graduating from Groves High
School, she attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and graduated from
there with a Bachelor’s of Industrial Engineering Degree. She was Plant
Manager for General Mills in Chanhassen, Minnesota and worked for General
Mills for 15 years. She was a member of Pooler First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her parents, Travis and Sandra Sowell; her
husband, Kevin Waldschmidt; brother, Travis Randolf Sowell; sisters, Charlene
Patrick and Darlene Barker; nephews, Joseph Patrick, Justin Patrick, Travis
Beaubien, and Christopher Sowell; nieces, Tess Mobley and Jessica Patrick;
several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, November 4,
at Pooler First Baptist Church. Rev. Otis Hill will officiate.

Savannah, GA 31419.
Leroy Barrs, Jr.
Leroy Barrs, Jr. died Friday, October 13, 2006, in Columbia,
South Carolina.
Mr. Barrs was a native resident of Savannah.
