• Magnolia Manor on the Coast is proud to host A “Key Event” Time of
Renewal taking place Sunday, October 15th through Thursday, October 19th.
In the “Key Event” Time of Renewal, the people celebrate the mighty acts
of God's intervention in human history through a focus on the Incarnation at
Christmas, the Atonement at Good Friday, the Resurrection at Easter and the
coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Even though the four great
Christian holy days of Christmas, Good Friday, Easter and Pentecost celebrate
the powerful action of God's intervention in human history they are rarely
celebrated as one sweeping event.
Although the general format of the “Key Event” is a ministry of the World
Methodist Council, the idea to organize and reach out to residents and friends
of Magnolia Manor on the Coast was facilitated by Reverend Whit Byram, the
Director of Spiritual Care with Magnolia Manor's three coastal campuses at St.
Simons, Richmond Hill and St. Marys. According to Rev. Byram, the
primary aim of the “Key Event” is to enable people to experience the
dynamic presence of the living Christ and share the good news of Christ Jesus
with others by word and deed. Magnolia Manor offers many spiritual care
opportunities for residents including a Sunday afternoon service and weekday
morning devotionals.
Events are free and open to Magnolia Manor residents, staff, family, and
friends. All events will be held at the Chapel at Magnolia Manor on the
Coast. For more information, please call Julie Gartside at 912-756-4300
or Rev. Whit Byram at 912-638-3844, ext. 17.
Magnolia Manor on the Coast, located in Richmond Hill, is a non-profit,
active, rental retirement community for seniors age 62 and older. It
offers 120 one and two-bedroom apartment homes with full kitchens and patios.
Located on 40 wooded acres, Magnolia Manor offers stimulating social and
cultural activities and has amenities such as a wellness center with indoor
exercise pool, barber and beauty salon, library and media center, game and
activity rooms, three full-service dining rooms, as well as a formal parlor
and chapel. Secure, safe and maintenance free, Magnolia Manor in

MY ANSWER
By Billy Graham
Q: This may seem like a strange question, but I work in our county's tax
collection office, and I don't understand why Jesus condemned tax collectors
so much. After all, if we didn't collect taxes, we couldn't have good
government, could we? Am I doing something wrong? - Mrs. D.C.
A: No, not at all; you have an important responsibility, and the Bible
encourages us to support good government by our taxes. The Bible says,
"Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue,
then revenue" (Romans 13:7).
In Jesus' day, however, being a tax collector (or a "publican," as
older translations called them) meant something far different from what it
means today. In Jesus' day, tax collecting often was seen as a corrupt and
dishonorable profession, and the reason is because the Roman government
allowed tax collectors to keep anything they could collect beyond the actual
taxes. In other words, tax collectors often made people pay far more than they
actually owed, and they then kept the excess.
Jesus condemned this and urged tax collectors to be fair and just. He even
welcomed them when they came to Him. On one occasion, an important tax
collector named Zacchaeus decided to follow Jesus. Jesus forgave his sins, and
in return Zacchaeus promised, "If I have cheated anybody out of anything,
I will pay back four times the amount" (Luke 19:8).
No matter who we are, God loves us, and Jesus Christ wants to forgive us and
save us. If you have never done so, invite Him into your life and ask Him to
help you live for Him every day.

Time To Go
by Gary Toole, Minister
When God has a special call on your life and your ministry has lost its
effectiveness, sometimes it’s time to go, to go on to where God needs you.
This fellow told me this story that perfectly illustrates how it is sometimes
in life when God is wanting us to move on, move up, and move out in His
kingdom work.
The story is about how the eagle builds her nest high up in the mountain. She
gathers heavy sticks and limbs and builds the foundation for the nest to make
it strong. Then she lines it with briars and thorns. After that she gets grass
to line the nest. Then she plucks feathers from her own body to cushion the
nest and make it soft. She then lays her eggs and they hatch.
She mothers and watches over the little chicks feverishly, providing them with
nourishment. Then when she knows it’s time for them to leave the nest she
begins to pull all the feathers out of the nest, making it less comfortable.
The chicks have grown and it’s time to go, but they want to stay in their
comfort zone. The call of nature is now at hand and it’s time to go.
They have got a job to do elsewhere. So the mother eagle pulls all the grass
out making it very uncomfortable with the thorns and briars now exposed. Some
of the baby eagles get the message and climb to the edge of the nest and then
fly away under the watchful eye of their mother. As they soar downward she
soars with them in case they are not totally ready to fly, then she can fly
under them and let them land on her back. Then she will bring them back to the
nest to try again.
Some go voluntarily, but some have to be pushed out of the nest, but mom is
there to catch them if they fall. The message is this: Sometimes it’s time
to go, but God will be with us if we will trust Him.
I have personally experienced that because I was like the baby eagles. I
wanted to stay where I was but God had other plans for me. Of course, I was
one of the ones that had to be kicked out of the nest and I thank God for
that. He was there to lead me and guide me and I praise Him for that and I can
say amen.
