Prayer For
This Week...
"Heavenly
Father, we come before you today
to ask your forgiveness and to
seek your direction and
guidance." "We know Your
Word says, "Woe to those who
call evil good," but that is
exactly what we have done. We have
lost our spiritual equilibrium and
reversed our values. We have
exploited the poor and called it
the lottery. We have rewarded
laziness and called it welfare. We
have killed our unborn and called
it choice. We have shot
abortionists and called it
justifiable. We have neglected to
discipline our children and called
it building self esteem. We have
abused power and called it
politics. We have coveted our
neighbor's possessions and called
it ambition. We have polluted the
air with profanity and pornography
and called it freedom of
expression. We have ridiculed t he
time-honored values of our
forefathers and called it
enlightenment. Search us, Oh God,
and know our hearts today; cleanse
us from every sin and Set us free.
Amen!"

Heaven... Where Is It?
And how do we get there?
By Joe Ortiz
This was the topic of a Barbra Walter’s special recently. As
a follower of Jesus Christ, there is no greater topic for me to speak of and
proclaim to anyone than that of… Heaven and How to get there.
Where is heaven? Heaven is another place, another time, some
say another dimension altogether. It’s a place where God is and Jesus Christ
His only Son resides and rules with His angels. It is where the Holy Spirit
came from to be in the lives of His followers after Jesus ascended back to
heaven. It’s the place where Jesus Christ is preparing a place for His
followers. It’s a place where there are streets of gold as well as walls of
precious stones, and twelve gates of twelve pearls.
The Bible (God’s holy word) gives the reader a description of
heaven in the book of the Revelation. Please read the referenced verses in
italics to get a better word picture. Revelation Chapter 21 and verses
19 and 21. Heaven is where the righteous people of God prior to the death and
resurrection of Christ went too, and all of His followers go too. Many things
there have happened, are happening, and will happen there as described in the
Bible.
How we get there starts ...by looking at ourselves as God sees
us against His standard rule of measurement, the Ten Commandments – His Holy
Law. Everyone of us have broken His Laws at one time or another, and because
we have, we are guilty and stand condemned. When we’ve lied (regardless of
how small) or stolen (regardless of the value), disrespected our parents
and therefore dishonored them, God sees lusting after another as committing
adultery, hating someone as murder.
A day is coming when people will stand guilty and give an
account to Him and be judged. The Bible says “it is appointed for each
person once to die, and after that comes judgment.” Hebrews
9:27.
So knowing that a person will stand before God guilty of
breaking His law(s), what will the verdict be? Innocent or Guilty? All will be
found guilty. They will then be sentenced to eternal punishment in hell.
Whether you believe in hell or not, it doesn’t change the fact all people
will be found guilty and pay the penalty for their sinful life in eternal
suffering punishment.
So who then can make it into heaven? It’s the person who God
draws to His Son, by letting him or her recognize that they stand guilty of
offending God by living their lives breaking His laws (sinning), and
turn from their sin to God, to be made right by asking Him to forgive them of
their sins, and trusting in the sacrifice of God’s Son Jesus on the cross
who paid for the sins of all, then rose from the dead to conquer death, hell,
and the grave.
God loves humanity and knew we could not make it to heaven on
our own merits, because we are imperfect human beings. God’s word says in
Isaiah 64:6... “We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our
righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags.” That is why God sent His
perfect and only Son Jesus Christ, to take our sin and by this we could be
made right. The Bible says “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the
offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
The Bible says “for God so loved the world that He gave His only son that
whoever believes in Him would not perish but have ever lasting life.”
There is only one thing that stops people from receiving
God’s forgiveness and entering heaven, it’s called PRIDE. People in the
U.S. and throughout the world are prideful, thinking they can go to heaven on
their own merits like those interviewed on the Barbra Walter’s special.
It showed that different religion’s ideas of making it to
heaven were totally based on how GOOD they behaved while alive. People
think if they live life a certain way that God will be pleased. But what they
are trying to do is cover up their sin, and the Bible says "He that
covers his sins shall not prosper, but who ever confesses and forsakes them
[repentance] shall have mercy." (Proverbs 28:13)
They hope that after they die and stand before God, that God
will notice their goodness, wink at their badness or that their good will
outweigh their bad and let them into heaven. Nothing is further from the truth
and it doesn’t make sense. God said… “for all have sin and fall short of
His glorious standard (Romans 3:23).”
Besides if that were true God would have never had to send
Jesus to pay for our sins. Jesus said of Himself “I AM the way, the truth,
and the life. No comes to the Father but by Me. (John 14:6).
How about you? Have you sensed God calling you to get right
with Him after listening to a preacher or friend, or read a section of the
Bible or a pamphlet asking you to get right with God? This is how God draws
you to His Son. God sees the attitude of your heart so push your pride aside,
admit you’re a sinner, turn from your sin to God and believe.
The bible says… If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is
Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be
saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God,
and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved (Romans 10:9-10).
Call out to God now, repent, believe and confess. Then read the Bible and obey
what it says. (Contact us for a free one if you need one.) Jesus will never
let you down. Tell others of your decision. Join a Bible believing
church near you or call us to have one referred.

MY ANSWER
By Billy Graham
Q: What's wrong with cussing once in a while? My wife gets
after me and says I shouldn't do it, but I find it's a pretty good way to let
off some steam when I'm upset. Anyway, you hear so much profanity on TV and in
movies today that no one thinks anything about it. - L.S.
A: Sadly, you may be right; our society has become so saturated
with profanity and coarse language that we seem to have grown almost
indifferent to it. We have become like the people of Jeremiah's time:
"They have no shame at all; they do not even know how to blush"
(Jeremiah 6:15).
But that doesn't make it right in the eyes of God - and He is
the one you should be seeking to please. When we use the name of God
thoughtlessly or blasphemously, it shows that we don't respect Him or love Him
as we should. When we angrily condemn someone in God's name, it shows that we
are trying to put ourselves in God's place - for only He is the true judge.
Our language also reveals our hearts - and if we constantly use filthy
language, it demonstrates the impurity of our inner lives.
This is why one of the Ten Commandments says, "You shall
not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone
guiltless who misuses his name" (Exodus 20:7). The Bible also says,
"Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are
out of place" (Ephesians 5:4).
The real issue is this, however: What place does God have in
your life? Have you committed your life to Christ - or have you left Him
standing on the outside? Face your need of Christ today, and then open your
heart and life to His cleansing power.
