Carol Mabe, 61, of
Midway, died Monday, May 14, 2007,
at Liberty Regional Medical Center
in Hinesville.
Ms. Mabe was an
administrative secretary for 30
years at Union Camp and
International Paper in the
Woodlands Division. She was a
Baptist.
Survivors include
one brother, Melvin Doss; and
special friend, Margie Rowland.
Memorial services
were held at 7 PM on Friday, May
25 in the Ben Wages Chapel of
Riggs Funeral Home in Guyton. Rev.
David Willet officiated.

Louise Sherrod Martin passed away
on Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at St.
Joseph's Hospital.
Mrs. Martin,
formerly of Savannah, was a member
of Friendship Baptist Church of
Midway. She enjoyed her job as a
greeter at the Wal-Mart in
Hinesville, and was a member of
the Eastern Star in Savannah.
Survivors include:
one son, David Martin of Midway;
two sisters, Eloise Ussery of
Crescent, GA, and Roselle Serra of
Atlanta; several nieces and
nephews.

Jr., 58, died on Wednesday, May
16, 2007 at Hospice Savannah.
Mr. Minchew was
born in Rebecca, GA and lived in
Bloomingdale for a number of
years. He was preceded in death by
his father, Andrew Curtis Minchew,
Sr. He loved going to Central
Baptist Church where he was a
member. He enjoyed racing and was
a humble, caring man who loved
people.

his life in Hardeeville, SC. He
was a member of Carpenters Local
#256. He was a millwright by trade
working for Stone Container,
Willamette, Mor-PPM, and Fru-Con.

Pamela Jeanne McKay Pablo
She was born in Savannah, Ga., and was preceded in death by her
father, James Vernon McKay, her husband, Robert “Bob” Pablo, and Miss
Scarlett. She was Office Manager for an Apartment Complex, and was a
Presbyterian. She was an Honorary member of the Coastal Parents Multiples
Club; she loved to bowl, and loved the beach.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Jeanne Drawdy McKay,
Savannah, Ga; 2 daughters, Jamie Lane (Ken) of Bloomingdale, Ga; and
Lacie Grace (Chris) of Orange Park, Fla; stepson, Robert Francis Pablo, III,
of Norfolk, Virginia; 4 stepdaughters, Bene Matthews, Christine Hudson,
Amanda Blackledge, and Beth Rivers, brother, Craig Dorse, sister, Vickie
Jackson (Kenny), 12 grandchildren, 2 grand dogs (Cowboy Grace & George
Jackson), and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of
the Fairhaven Funeral Home.

Ellabell - Mrs. Gertrude Carter Davis, age 85, of Ellabell,
died Thursday morning at Savannah Specialty Care Center in Savannah.
Mrs. Davis was a homemaker, and avid gardener and a member of
Lanier Baptist Church.
Survivors include a husband Lee Davis, one son and
daughter-in-law Buddy and Teresa Davis; one daughter and son-in-law Barbara
and Jack Butler; one sister Helen Davis all of Ellabell; 4 grandchildren Marie
Patterson, James Davis, Billy Butler, and Jackie Butler and 6 great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 P.M. Sunday at Morrison
Memorial Chapel with Rev Don Combs Officiating. Burial was in Lower
Black Creek Cemetery.

Mrs. Blanche C. Horne
Bloomingdale-Mrs. Blanche C. Horne, 70, died on Friday, May 18,
2007 at her home surrounded by her family.
Blanche was born in Charleston, SC and lived all of her life in
Chatham County. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she
was a former Sunday School Teacher, a Lay Speaker and a member of the U.M.W.
She was formerly employed with Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery where she worked
for twenty years. She was formerly an accountant with Fine’s, and she was a
member of Who’s Who American Business Women as well as former substitute
teacher.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Carey W. Horne of
Bloomingdale; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy & Brenda Greenway of Black
Creek; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathleen G. Davis of Pooler and Sondra
L. & John Ray Sikes of Clyo; two grandchildren, Lindsay Sikes of Clyo and
Elizabeth Davis of Pooler; great-grandchild, Ilayziah Washington; sister, Mary
Bennett of Blackshear; Aunt, Rebecca Pullin of Savannah and three nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday in the chapel of
the funeral home with burial to follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery.

John Francis Buttimer
Loving father, brother, and friend, Jack Buttimer, went to God,
with a pilgrim’s heart on Thursday May 17th, dying peacefully at home under
the care of Hospice Savannah.
Born in Savannah, Jack attended Marist and Cathedral elementary
schools, and Benedictine Military School. His scholastic abilities and
leadership qualities emerged early and followed him throughout his life. After
high school Jack joined the navy and served for the duration of World War II.
He then enrolled in Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. Earning
a degree in chemical engineering. He worked in the capacity in Baltimore, Md.
Before returning to Savannah to work at Union Camp. For a brief time Jack
worked in the insurance business and for the past thirty years on the
waterfront where he served as a member and officer of the ILA Local 1475 and
cherished the friendship of Clerks, Longshoremen, and Stevedores.
Always active in his Church, Jack organized a Boy Scout Troup
at St. James and served as Scoutmaster. He participated in various Church
activities such as the Diocesan Notre Dame Study in the 1970’s and in the
Spiritual Renewal Movement where he became a local leader. In recent years
Jack was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, where he was active in the
Small Church community. Loving all things Irish, he also belonged to the
Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Hibernian Society of Savannah.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents P.J. “Toby” and
Elizabeth Deegan Buttimer, brothers: Patrick Joseph, Jr. and Jimmy and
grandson, John Curtis Buttimer.
Survivors: Former wife; Jeanne C Buttimer; sons; John J.
(Sarah), James A. (Teresa) Michael F., Robert D. (Nancy) all of
Savannah, Timothy E. (Wanda) of Nettles,. Daniel C. (Elizabeth) of
Bowden, and Brendan J. (Ann) of Spartanburg, SC.; sisters; Mary Brigid, RSM
and Helen Marie, RSM; brothers; Thomas M. (Molly), Edward M. (Rochelle), all
of Savannah, Anthony J. (Mary) of Marietta, and Richard J. (Retta) of
Milledgeville; sister in law, Martha S. Buttimer, ten grandchildren, five
great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friend
Mercedes Sullivan, and Ann and Gerry Hagan.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at
Sacred Heart Church with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
Jack’s sons served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers;
Benedictine Class of 1945.

Mrs. Dorothy Hughes Shearouse
Springfield - Mrs. Dorothy Hughes Shearouse, 97, died Saturday,
May 19, 2007 at Effingham Extended Care.
A native of Tennessee, Mrs. Shearouse was educated at Asbury
College in Wilmore, KY with a major in music. She came to Springfield as a
young music teacher and was employed to teach in the public schools. Here she
met and eventually married her husband, Emory A. Shearouse. The devoted couple
reared two children and were active in church and community activities. They
celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary before Mr. Shearouse’s death in
1989.
Mrs. Shearouse will be remembered by the many pupils that she
taught to play the piano and by those who enjoyed listening to her make
beautiful music on the piano and organ. For 25 years, she was organist and
choir director at the Springfield United Methodist Church where she was an
active member. She also held various leadership positions in the Sunday School
and the United Methodist Women. She was a lifetime member of the U.M.W.
In addition to music, Mrs. Shearouse also loved flowers and was
the last surviving charter member of the Springfield Garden Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Shearouse Neidlinger and
her husband Darryl of Lawrenceville; a son, Harry Hughes Shearouse and his
wife Phyllis of Springfield; five grandchildren, David Neidlinger of Cumming,
Mindy Neidlinger of Dacula, and Matt Neidlinger and his wife Jamie of Ball
Ground, Cindy Morgan and her husband Michael of Clyo, Michelle Taylor and her
huband Jay of Springfield; four great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Caroline
Morgan, Mary Ellen Taylor, and Reece Neidlinger. She is also survived by her
sister-in-law, Mrs. Frances Shearouse Fielding of Jacksonville, FL; several
nieces and nephews, and her loving faithful caregivers Patricia Huffines and
Sherry Cruz.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. in the Sanctuary with Rev.
Ben Martin and Rev. Earl Seckinger officiating. Interment was in the
Springfield Cemetery.

Cody Dane Ricks, 22, of Meldrim, passed away Sunday, May 20,
2007 at his residence.
He was born in Savannah and lived all his life in Meldrim.
Cody was a painter and a member of the International Worship Center. He loved
to fish and work on his truck.
He is survived by his parents, Ricky and Debbie Scates Ricks; a
brother, Wesley Ricks; two sisters, Tracy R. Sparks and Tammie R. Hall; his
grandfather, Edward Bunn; two nieces; several aunts, uncles, cousins and other
family.

Guyton - Jayden Leigh Collins, infant daughter of Megan Thomas
and Christopher Collins, died May 20th at Memorial Health. Graveside services

Mr. Robert “Bobby” E. Tuten
Bloomingdale- Mr. Robert “Bobby” E. Tuten, 71, died Monday,
May 21, 2007, at home surrounded by his family. He was born October 3, 1935 in
Savannah, Georgia but lived most of his life in Pooler and Bloomingdale. He
owned and operated Tuten Plumbing Co. for more than 50 years. He enjoyed
farming and raising cattle. He could always find the humorous side of things.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Azaleen Tuten.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Mrs. Elaine Bodiford
Tuten; daughter, Debbie Williamson and her husband Mark; granddaughter, Kandi;
grandson, Ryan of Pooler; son, Chris Tuten of Pooler; daughter, Delia
Diekemper and her husband David; grandsons, Robert, Joseph and Justin of
Bloomingdale; daughter, Julie Dugger and her husband Brian; granddaughter,
Emily of Atlanta; stepson, Daniel Garrett and his wife Rose; grandson,
Casey; stepdaughter, Patricia Pilcher and her husband Frank; granddaughters
Toni and Shelly, grandson Frank Jr. of Savannah; brothers, Tommy Tuten of
Pooler and Donny Tuten of Bloomingdale; and five great grandchildren.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, He will be
dearly missed.

The Bulloch County native was an electrician and a long time
resident of Effingham County.

nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Elmer Lawrence Winkler, Jr., 69, of Savannah, died Tuesday, May

He was born in Collinsville, Illinois, and was a veteran,
having served in the US Air Force. He was a Communicant of the Catholic
Church, and a member of the Dixie Land Cruisers Car Club. He was the
owner/operator of E. L. Winkler Towing Company. He was preceded in
death by a son, Christopher Winkler, and a sister, Dolores Belobrleydic.
He is survived by his wife, Sherrye Snider Winkler, of
Savannah, Ga; 2 sons, David & Barry Winkler, 2 daughters, Donna
Helpingsteine, and Rebekah Mooney; stepson, C. F. Landrum, III, and a
stepdaughter, Robin Evans; 4 brothers, Robert, Ronald, Richard, and Edwin
Winkler, 2 sisters, Marie Hultz, and Lorraine Daly, 13 grandchildren, and
several great grandchildren.

grandchildren.
