Steve's Shorts
I had just started delivering papers last Thursday after the thunderstorm passed through Pooler, with every intention of attending the Bloomingdale City Council meeting at 7pm. I was in the Pooler Food Lion shopping center to fill our racks there, saw my buddy Wesley the Peanut Man and talked to him for a few minutes, and then I got a phone call from Allison telling me that an oak limb had fallen through my Mom's roof.
Thankfully, my Mom had taken the first real vacation of her life, a two week cruise to Canada. In fact, she'd called Allison's cell phone and left a message about the time the limb fell, saying she was having the time of her life and talking about how beautiful it was up there and how she wished we were up there with her.
I went on over to her house, on 63rd Street in Savannah, and you could't see nothin' but oak tree. It covered the house from one end to the other, and to top it off, there was a giant bee hive in the oak tree where the limb had split and the bees were swarming by the thousands.
We were very lucky though. Any other Thursday night, my Mom would've been inside getting ready for her church services at the convalescent center where she helps out. And I can't praise the folks at Safeco Insurance enough either. They've been on top of everything since I called them Friday morning.
And I really want to mention the work done by Clay Lockamy and the crew from Sharp's Tree Service. They showed up about 9:30pm and worked through until around 3am getting the limbs off the roof and outta the front yard and getting the roof tarped to keep anymore rain from getting inside. They even picked up the little twigs left in the front yard. Incredible work by Clay and his crew! I highly recommend them!

...There's a Blood Drive next Tuesday in Garden City to benefit Bobby Bohler. It'll be at the Garden City United Methodist Church on Varnedoe Avenue from 10am til 6pm. Remember, less than an hour of your time
could mean a lifetime for someone in need. Give the gift of life.

...Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie called to remind me to remind you about the upcoming Click it or Ticket starting May 18th and lasting until June 3rd. He said "Well have lots of extra Deputies out on the roads, and I've removed all the quotas they normally work under. Now, they can write as many tickets as they want!" So make sure you buckle up before you hit the streets. It's a great idea anytime and just might save your life!

...Time for some Cruel and Unusual Pun-ishment...
King Ozymandias of Assyria was running low on cash after years of? war with the Hittites. His last great possession was the Star of the? Euphrates, the most valuable diamond in the ancient world.
Desperate, he went to Croesus, the pawnbroker, to ask for a loan. Croesus said, "I'll give you 100,000 dinars for it."
"But I paid a million dinars for it," the King protested.? "Don't you know who I am?? I am the king!"
Croesus replied, "When you wish to pawn a Star, makes no
difference who you are."

...Take care this week, stay safe, and in the words of the great Red Skelton, "May God Bless."
