Obituaries

Johnny Eugene Rollins, Jr.
Johnny Eugene Rollins, Jr., 50, of Ellabell, Ga., died Thursday, May 24, 2007 at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
He was born in Columbia, S.C., and was a graduate of H. V. Jenkins High School.  He was a Dispatcher for Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, and was a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Truslow Rollins, son, Johnny Matthew Rollins, daughter, Samantha Michelle Rollins, parents, Johnny E. & Geraldine C. “Gerry”  Rollins, Sr., all of Ellabell, Ga;  sister, Joy Rollins Sauers, of Savannah, Ga;  brother and sister in law, Rev. Jeffrey D. and Dorothy S. Rollins, of Springfield, Ga;  and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of the Fairhaven Funeral Home, with Rev. Darren Thomas, and Rev. Jeffrey D. Rollins, officiating.  Interment was in Effingham Memorial Gardens, at Springfield, Ga.
Fairhaven Funeral Home & Crematory was in charge of all arrangements.

William Darby Haymans
William Darby Haymans, 89, died Thursday, May 17, 2007 at Effingham Extended Care Facility.
Mr. Haymans was a native of Georgia, but lived most of his adult life in Hollywood, Florida. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in World War II.
Survivors include two nieces, Claudine Kirby and Winnifred Zipperer; and a number of other nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, May 30 at 4 PM at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Fleming, Georgia.
Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1050, Springfield, GA 31329.
Riggs Funeral Home in Guyton, Georgia was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Catherine “Cathy” Webb
Mrs. Catherine Webb, 80, died Saturday, May 26, 2007 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro.
Mrs. Webb was born in Effingham County. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband, Allen Elmer Webb of Statesboro; son, Lee Allen Webb of Queen Creek, AZ; daughter, Linda Christy of Highland Ranch, AZ; sisters, Willie Tebeau and Mertice K. Kirkland, both of Springfield; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 29 at 2 PM at Bethel Lutheran Church. Burial followed immediately at Bethel Church Cemetery.
Contributions may be given to the Bethel Lutheran Church Organ Fund, PO Box 1022, Springfield, GA 31329 or Ogeechee Area Hospice, 200 Donehoo Street, Statesboro, GA 30458.

Alton Emory Oakes, Jr.
Mr. Oakes died Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at Memorial Hospital.
He was retired from the Ironworkers Local 709 and was a US Army veteran.
Mr. Oakes was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Lou Harris and Barbara Ann Wall, a brother, Robert Hugh Oakes, and his parents, Alton E. and Willie Lou Oakes.
Survivors include his sisters, Jimmie Jane Hutchinson and Billie Ruth Collins; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; two grandchildren, Gracie and Chandler Cobb.
Funeral services were held at 7 PM on Friday, May 25 at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home in Pooler. Rev. Kenneth Harrelson of Central Baptist Church, Garden City officiated.

Katie Ruth Douglas Glisson
Rincon - Katie Ruth Douglas Glisson, 79, died Sunday, May 27, 2007 at Memorial Health.
The Johnson County native was a member of First Baptist Church of Rincon and faithfully served as the Sunday school secretary for 40 years. She was a homemaker and was instrumental in working in the Manna House alongside her husband for which was named the Glisson Building on Sunday, May 20, 2007. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Spencer Douglas and Virginia Elizabeth Powell Douglas, and her husband, Byron C. Glisson, Sr.
Survivors include 4 sons, Byron Clifford Glisson, Jr. of Guyton, Gary Wayne Glisson of Jacksonville, FL, Darrell Keith Glisson of Rincon, and Michael Clifford Glisson of Rincon; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Roy Douglas of Swainsboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Rincon.
Interment was in Rincon Cemetery.
Remembrances may be given to First Baptist Church of Rincon, 201 E. 6th St., Rincon, GA 31326.

Mr. Otis Williams
Faulkville-Mr. Otis Williams, 94, died on Sunday, May 27, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Williams was born in Emanuel County to the late John Martin and Zorrah Williams. He had lived in Chatham County for a number of years before moving to Faulkville in 1970. He was a member of the Powers Baptist Church and a 50 year member of the Richard T. Turner Masonic Lodge # 116 F & AM. He retired from Union Camp. He was preceded in death by his son, Elton Lee Williams; a grandson, Donald Radford; four brothers and a sister.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Ruby Lee Williams of Faulkville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Geneva Hill of Brooklet and Margie & Leland Lewis of Faulkville; grandsons, Kenneth Radford of Brooklet and Willie E. Myers of Faulkville; granddaughter, Donna Thompson of Brooklet; six great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the chapel of the funeral home.
Graveside Funeral services followed at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Old Canoochee Baptist Church Cemetery in Emanuel County with Masonic Rites.
Remembrances may be given to VistaCare Hospice, 1000 Towne Center Boulevard, Suite 604, Pooler, GA 31322.

Norma Rowena Weeks Gale
Norma Rowena Weeks Gale, 81, of Savannah, died Sunday, May 27, 2007 at Savannah Beach Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Bryan County, and was preceded in death by her husband, Albert C. Gale.
She was a life long member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she had formerly served as Church Secretary,  Church Visitor, Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Sanctuary Choir, where she had served as Chaplain for many years, a member of the Marvin O’Neal Sunday School Class,  a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service, and the United Methodist Women, she had served as Chairman of the Wednesday Night Meals, always helping to prepare the meals, and served as a member of the Administrative Board and the Bereavement Committee of the Church.  She had a monthly Bible Study at Chatham County Nursing Home for many years.  She was a member of the DAR, Woodmen of the World, and American Business Women.
She is survived by a daughter, Janice Gale, 3 sons, Lamar Gale, Donald Gale, and Rev. Bobby Gale, a brother, Walter Weeks, 2 sisters, Millie Wilson and Evelyn McCord, 12 grandchildren, 8 greatgrandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Rev. Bobby Gale, and Rev. Enoch Hendry, officiating. 
Graveside Services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
Remembrances:  Trinity United Methodist Church, 225 West President St., Savannah, Ga  31401.

Dean Randal “Randy” Yeomans
Dean Randal “Randy” Yeomans, 52, of Savannah, passed away on Friday May 25, 2007 at Candler Hospital after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his father, Perry Grayble Yeomans.
Randy was born and raised here in Savannah and was educated in the public schools. He was a welder by trade and had attended Dean Forest Baptist Church.
He is survived by his mother, Florence Morgan Yeomans Williams of Savannah; one son, Dean Alexander “Butch” Yeomans; three brothers, Danny Yeomans of Pooler, Gary Yeomans of Macon, and Jimmy Williams of Stilson, several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services: 4:00 p.m. Thursday, May 31st, 2007
Burial will be private

Mr. James Earl Thomas
Pooler- Mr. James Earl Thomas, 75, died on Friday, May 25, 2007 at his home.
Mr. Thomas was born in Israel Township, Ohio to the late Clitis & Esther Thomas. He lived in Pooler for a number of years and attended Rothwell Baptist Church. Mr. Thomas served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was the recipient of the Silver Star, Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He retired from Kaiser as a regional manager and enjoyed fishing and gardening. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Linda Overstreet Thomas of Pooler; children, Marcia Kaye (Jimmy) Dark and Michael Keith (Christan) Thomas, all of Charleston, SC and Michael Nease of Pooler; six grandchildren; sisters, Maribeth Tucker of Phoenix, AZ and Joy (Bob) Wickett and Linda (Clyde) Pack, all of Naples, FL and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 30th at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with burial at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery on Dean Forest Road.
Remembrances may be given to Rothwell Baptist Church Building Fund, 216 Rothwell Street, Pooler, GA 31322 or to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
