Obituaries

Mr. Robert W. Lewis
Robert W. Lewis, 81, of Port Wentworth passed away peacefully on 
January 5.
Bob was a World War II Navy Veteran and retired from Gulfstream Aerospace after 25 years of service. Bob obtained his private pilots license after his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1946, and flying was his passion for decades. Bob also enjoyed riding his motorcycles, breakfast at the beach, and restoring classic cars.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan Lewis of Charlotte, NC and Sally Lewis Clontz and husband Randy of Indian Trail, NC. He is also survived by close friends, Ann and Alan Tebbetts family, Robin and Jim Vauiso family, Daphne Morris and Kenny and Dorothy Kocher, whose years of companionship enhanced his life greatly.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Candler Hospital, especially Katie Wallack and Amber Cooper.

Richard Allen Boyd
Rincon - Richard Allen Boyd, 52, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 
Effingham Hospital.
The Effingham County native was a member of Rincon Church of God and was the owner/operator of R.A. Boyd Trucking Co. Richard loved his Lord, his family, and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Boyd and Loretta West Boyd.
Survivors include his wife, Marsha Dyches Boyd of Rincon; children, Christopher A. Boyd (Amy Chaplin) of Rincon, Jessica Ann Thompson (Chris) of Rincon, Jacquelyn Marie Boyd (Johnny Roman) of Hinesville, and Hannah Elizabeth Boyd of Rincon; step-children, Shelly Waters (Kellis) of Guyton and Michael Gibbons of Clyo; grandchildren, Mackenzie Waters and Makayla Waters; brother, Johnny Boyd (Nancy) of Villa Rica; sisters, Loretta Hinely (Charles) of Springfield, Jane Thompson (Lee) of Midway, Carolyn Kessler (Joe) of Guyton, Shirley Winters (Jim) of Savannah; a number of nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Jewell Dyches of Statesboro; 2 brothers-in-law, Andy Dyches (Claire) and David Dyches (Carol) all of Statesboro.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Rincon Church of God. Mr. Boyd will lie in state from 10 a.m.
Interment will be in Rincon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be given to the Hannah Boyd Fund, c/o Coastal Bank, 5799 Hwy. 21 S., Rincon, GA 31326.

William C. “Billy” Perkins, Jr.
William C. “Billy” Perkins, Jr., 73, died Saturday, January 5, 2008 at the Effingham County Extended Care Facility.
Mr. Perkins was an Effingham County native, a heating and air-conditioning technician with Sears, a charter member of Pineora Baptist Church and former pastor of Pineora Baptist, Sand Hill Baptist, and Little Ogeechee Baptist. He was also a veteran having 
served with the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents, William C. Perkins, Sr. and Edith Nease Wright.
Survivors include a son, Stephen Larry Perkins of Hardeeville, SC; sister, Rebecca P. Howell and husband, Jimmy of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; nephews, Barney Nease and wife, Norma of Guyton.
Graveside services were held Monday, January 7 at 2 PM at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery near Oliver, Georgia.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Effingham County Extended Care Facility, PO Box 386, Springfield, GA 31329.

Mrs. Sylvia M. Harbig
Mrs. Sylvia M. Harbig, 76, died Saturday, January 5, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah.
Mrs. Harbig was born in Brooklyn, New York and had lived in Effingham County for a number of years. She was a homemaker and a member of Guyton United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda S. Harbig.
Survivors include her husband, Johnny Harbig of Springfield; two daughters, Nancy McVay of Guyton and Karen A. Balz of Monroe Township, NJ; two sons, Johnny Harbig, II of Springfield and Neil Harbig of Clearwater, FL; brother, Herbert Siversten of Jamesburg, NJ; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 12 at 11 AM from Guyton United Methodist Church with Rev. Chip Strickland officiating. Riggs Funeral Home in Guyton, Georgia was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Louise S. Wilson
Mrs. Louise S. Wilson, age 81, died Monday, January 7, 2008, after a long illness while a patient at Effingham County Extended Care Nursing Home.
Mrs. Wilson was a native of Lowndes County, Georgia having lived a number of years in Rincon, and was formerly employed with Union Camp Corp. many years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Wilson.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Rickie Rogers of Rincon; and other relatives.
Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, January 12 at 4 PM at Fountain Funeral Home Chapel in Port Wentworth. Fountain Funeral Home in Port Wentworth, Georgia was in charge of 
arrangements.
