Obituaries

Jeannette B. Schumaker
Jeannette B. Schumaker, age 93, joined her Lord on July 24, 2008 at 
Hospice of Savannah.
She was born April 26, 1915 in Davenport, Iowa. She married Peter H. 
Schumaker Jr. on June 27, 1937. She was also a member of Trinity 
Lutheran Church.
She leaves behind son David H. Schumaker of Milan, IL, daughter 
Judith L. Bringman of Savannah, six grandchildren, eight great 
grandchildren, and beloved dog Sara.
A Memorial Service was held at 2pm on Tuesday, July 29 at Trinity 
Lutheran Church with burial to be in Iowa.
Remembrances may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church 12391 Mercy Blvd, 
or to Hospice of Savannah.
Fairhaven Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Mrs. Betty K. Reed
Pooler-Mrs. Betty K. Reed, 75, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 
at Hospice Savannah surrounded by her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond & Lena Kanipes of 
White Sulphur Springs, WV and a brother, Raymond Kanipes of Texas.
Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, Maurice Reed of 
Pooler; daughter, Sherry Altman of West Palm Beach, FL; son and 
daughter-in-law, Edward & Julie Reed of West Palm Beach; 
grandchildren, Candace Giddens of Richmond Hill, Andrea Giddens of 
Pembroke, Jimmy & Donna Reed and Shanna Reed, all of West Palm Beach; 
great-grandchildren, Brooke West of Richmond Hill and Logan Reed of 
West Palm Beach; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie & Jimmy King of 
Fairlea, WV and several nieces and nephews.
Remembrances may be given to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, 
Savannah, GA 31416 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 13117, 
Savannah, GA 31416.
A memorial service to celebrate Mrs. Reed’s life will be held at 2 
p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Shanklin Funeral Home in White 
Sulpher Springs, WV with Rev. Mike Estep officiating.

Annie Mae Young
Annie Mae Young, 74, of Garden City went to be with the Lord on 
Tuesday, July 29, 2008.  She passed peacefully at her home under the 
care of Odyssey Health Care.
She was born July 1, 1934 in San Antonio Texas.  Annie leaves behind 
her loving husband of 35 years, Bobby Ray Young; two sisters, Louise 
Cornell of Paramount, CA, Margaret Hale of San Antonio, TX; several 
aunts and uncles.
Service will be private.
Remembrances are asked to be made to Odyssey Health Care, 5105 
Paulsen Street Suite 225-D, Savannah, GA 31405.

Ouita Hallman
Ouita Hallman, age 79, passed away on July 27, 2008 at St. Josephs 
Hospital in Savannah. She was born September 4, 1928 in Tattnall 
County, GA, to the late Clyde and Unalee Anderson. She was a loving 
wife, mother, and friend, and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Warren Winders. She 
leaves behind to cherish her memory Husband Bobby Hallman, sons Mark 
Winders (Mary) and James Winders, grandchildren Mark Anthony Winders 
Jr., Amber McGregor Winders, Angel Winders, Ashley Merritt-Bogner, 
and Amy Mathews, sister Majorie Thorton, as well as numerous nieces, 
nephews, and friends.
Graveside Service were held at 11am on Thursday, July 31 at Forest 
Lawn Memory Gardens.
Fairhaven Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Fronita Althea Harnage
Fronita Althea Harnage, 80, of Pooler, GA died Monday July 28, 2008 
at Memorial Health University Medical Center. She was born in Candler 
County, GA and was a member of First Baptist Church Bloomingdale, GA. 
where she was member of the Ladies I Sunday school class. She was 
Treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary at Union Camp Corporation and a 
member of Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleo Harnage, and a sister-
in-law, Geraldine Sheppard.
She is survived by 3 sisters-in-law, Nell Poppell, Reba McCullough 
and Hazel Perry; numerous nieces and nephews and many close friends.
Funeral Services were held at 11:00 am Thursday July 31, 2008 in the 
Chapel of Fairhaven Funeral Home with Rev. Darrell Bailey officiating.
Interment was at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Fairhaven Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

O. Nell Brown Scott Langdon
O. Nell Brown Scott Langdon, 72, of Statesboro, passed away Tuesday, 
July 29, 2008 at her son’s residence in Bloomingdale.
Nell is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy & Lynn 
Scott of Bloomingdale and Terry & Miriam Scott of Kansas City, 
Kansas; two sisters, Bonnie B. Lofton of Bonnea, South Carolina and 
Patricia Donaldson & her husband Mark of Register, Georgia; four 
grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private.
Fairhaven Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Virginia M. Brown
Virginia M. Brown, 83, of Garden City, GA died Monday July 28, 2008 
at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, GA.
She was born in Camden, S.C. and retired from Gulfstream Aerospace 
Corporation.
She was everybody’s “Grandma.” All who knew her loved her, and she 
will not be forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer C. Brown and a step-
son, Richard.
She is survived by 1 daughter, Brenda Crabb of Dublin, GA; 2 
grandchildren, Jennifer Rogers (Mike) and Pete Jump (Diana); 4 great-
grandchildren, Tylor & Makenzi Rogers and Jennifer & Christopher 
Jump; 1 brother, L.D. Napper and several nieces and nephews; She is 
also survived by 4 step-children, Homer (Bim), Linda, Kathy, & Emmie, 
and their children & grandchildren.
Memorial Service: 1:00 pm Saturday in the Chapel of Fairhaven Funeral 
Home.

Marvin “Steamboat” Mitchell, Jr.
Marvin “Steamboat” Mitchell, Jr., 44, died Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 
Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro.
Steamboat was born in Chatham County, lived in Guyton for a number of 
years, and moved to Sylvania prior to his death. He was a painter and 
a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Shannon Mitchell of Sylvania; four 
children, Denna, Darrell, Austin and Katelyn, all of Sylvania; his 
father, Marvin Mithcell, Sr., and mama, Cathy.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, July 26 from the Ben Wages 
Chapel of Riggs Funeral Home.
Riggs Funeral Home in Guyton, Georgia was in charge of arrangements.
Ronson Knight
Ronson Knight, 21, died Thursday, July 24, 2008.
Ronson lived in Chatham County and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Karen and Eugene Ryea 
of Savannah; brother, Jared and Duztyn Knight, both of Savannah; 
sisters, Robin and Jennifer Knight, both of Atlanta; and his 
grandmother, Mrs. Frances Knight of Savannah.
Graveside services were held Monday, July 28 at 2 PM at Lanes Chapel 
Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Stilson with Rev. Gary Roberts 
officiating.
Riggs Funeral Home in Guyton, Georgia was in charge of arrangements.

Thora Rowe Dunaway
Thora Rowe Dunaway, 72, of  Savannah, passed away peacefully 
surrounded by the things she loved, her quilts and her dolls, on  
Monday, July 28, 2008 at her residence. She was preceded in death by 
her husband, Charles, daughters, Malinda Dale Rahn, father, Ernest 
Rowe and brother, William.
Thora was born and raised in Chatham County and was a member of the 
Pt. Wentworth United Methodist Church. She was a wonderful seamstress 
and when she moved to Texas in 1979, she taught many Hispanic how to 
sew and make crafts.
Thora was a member of the United Methodist Women, Doll Ministry and 
Prayer Shawl group, Ogeechee Quilters Guild, McIntosh Senior 
Citizens, where she taught quilting and doll making, former Effingham 
Co. School Bus Driver a Sunday School Teacher and was a leader of the 
MYF.
She is survived by her mother, Doriene Davis Rowe of Savannah; four 
sisters; Marguerite Archer of Darien, Billie Cox of Port Wentworth, 
Evelyn Tidemand of Savannah, Fredricka Murray of Ridgeland, SC; one 
aunt, LaVerne Chambers of Atlanta; one uncle, Leonard Moscicki of 
Chicago, a sister in law, Ernstine McCelland of Savannah; several 
nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday August 1, 2008 at the Pt. 
Wentworth United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Nease officiating.
Burial: Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
Memorial Contributions: Pt. Wentworth United Methodist Church
