Obituaries

William Robert Coursey
William Robert Coursey, age 77, passed away with his loving family 
beside him on April 24. Robert was born October 25, 1930 in Sylvania 
of the late Leiford Coursey and Elizabeth Potter. He served the 
Savannah Fire Department for 34 years until he retired as Captain, 
and also worked with DePue Vault Co. for many years. Robert served in 
the United States Marine Corp., and was a member of Savannah 
Christian Church and Savannah Chapter of the Gideon’s International. 
He was an avid fisherman and skilled craftsman. He will be deeply 
missed by everyone who knew him.
Robert is survived by his Daughters Roberta Lavender and husband 
James, Rebecca Stanford, Sherri Coursey, all of Savannah, and Sheila 
Helms of NC., Brother Edward L Coursey of Rincon, Grandchildren 
Jessica, Olivia and William Stanford III, Alexander Coursey, Sarah 
and Joseph Waites, and Kevin Wallace Jr., and several Nieces and 
Nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his Brothers James and Grant 
Coursey and Sister Georgia North.
Graveside Services were held at 3pm on Monday, April 28, at 
Bonaventure Cemetery, with Rev. Bryan Jobe officiating. Pallbearers 
were Greg Coursey, Monte Coursey, Holt Coursey, Jack Coursey, Doug 
Coursey, Tony Coursey, Jamie Coursey, Bud Lawyer, Frank Burke, Gill 
Panal and Eddie Thomas.

Pauline Beach
Pauline Beach, 94, of Port Wentworth, passed away on Friday, April 
25, 2008 at the Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A longtime member of the Garden City United Methodist Church, she is 
survived by 1 daughter, Barbara L. (John) Peavy of Port Wentworth; 4 
granddaughters, Sharon (Bill) Rogers, Debbie (Leo) Durden, and Susan 
Doss, all of Port Wentworth, and Bonnie Beach of California; 6 great-
grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Fairhaven Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Christine M. Jenkins
Guyton: Mrs. Christine M. Jenkins, 97, passed away on Wednesday, 
April 23, 2008, at the Effingham Extended Care Center. Mrs. Jenkins 
moved to Guyton in November, 2000, from the Holmes County Florida 
area where she had resided for over 80 years. She was the last living 
Charter Member of Caryville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday 
School and played the piano for over 35 years. After attending 
Florida State University and the University of Florida, Mrs. Jenkins 
was an Elementary School teacher and principal before joining her 
husband in the operation of their General Mercantile.
Mrs. Jenkins was preceded in death by her husband, William Mel 
Jenkins, two brothers, and a sister. Survivors include her daughter, 
Edwina (Ray) Morse, sons, Bill (Laura) Jenkins and Archie (Lainie) 
Jenkins, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great, 
great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Jenkins shared her wisdom, humor, and Christian love with 
everyone she met. She will be greatly missed. Her family appreciates 
the loving care Mrs. Jenkins received from the staff and volunteers 
at the Effingham Extended Care Center.
Funeral services were held at Caryville Baptist Church, Sunday, April 
27, at 2 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Guyton Christian 
Church, P. O. Box 5, Guyton, Ga. 31312.

Robert Lamont McSpadden
Savannah-Mr. Robert Lamont McSpadden, 72, died on Wednesday, April 23 
in the care of the Hospice House Savannah. Robert was born in 
Hoboken, GA and lived most of his life in Savannah. He was an avid 
golfer, fisherman and a huge Sand Gnats fan. Mr. McSpadden was also a 
long time member of the Savannah Moose Lodge #1550.
Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer McSpadden Privette, son-in-
law, Kenny Privette of Pooler, grandsons, Jensen and Hayden Privette, 
two sons, Michael (Sharon) McSpadden of Guyton and Rocky (Christina) 
McSpadden of Atlanta, one sister, Delona McSpadden, one brother, 
James (Annette) McSpadden, both of Brunswick, GA, 10 grandchildren, 6 
great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many adopted 
children and grandchildren along the way.
The funeral service honoring his life was held on Saturday, April 26, 
2008 at 11 a.m. at the Thomas C. Strickland and Sons Funeral Home, 
West Chatham Chapel.

Mr. Joe Perry Collins, Jr.
Pooler-Mr. Joe Perry Collins, Jr., 72, went to be with the Lord on 
April 27, 2008.
Joe served his country in the Air Force and the Georgia Air National 
Guard and retired from the Georgia Ports Authority as a police 
officer and retired from the Civil Service. He was a member of the 
White Bluff United Methodist Church. He liked spending time with his 
granddaughter and wood working. He was preceded in death by his 
mother, Mittie McCarty; father, Joe Perry Collins, Sr. and a sister 
Lucille Peterson.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Sammie R. Collins of Pooler; 
daughter, Kelly R. Scholes of Pooler; granddaughter, Amanda R. 
Scholes of Pooler; and sister, Sally Shanor of Hawaii.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the chapel of 
the funeral home with burial to follow at Newton Cemetery.

Mr. Danny Hyland Braswell
Black Creek-Mr. Danny Hyland Braswell, 59, died peacefully on Monday, 
April 28, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah as a result of 
brain cancer.
Born in Swainsboro, Georgia, he grew up in Bryan County and graduated 
from Southeast Bulloch High School in 1966. He began work at Southern 
Bell and served the company for 41 years in various capacities 
including assistant manager, supervisor and Specialist in Network and 
Operations. He was well known throughout the state for his knowledge 
of the telephone system and leadership capabilities and became dubbed 
as “the brains behind telephone networking.”
He served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Guam, San 
Diego and Charleston and received an honorable discharge from the 
Navy. Danny was an active and dedicated member of the Pembroke Holy 
Church of God.
An avid outdoorsman who loved to fish with his eight year-old 
grandson, he was also a member of the Tar City Hunting Club in Bryan 
County and the Telephone Pioneers of Georgia. Family, friends and 
neighbors knew Danny as a master chef.
He loved entertaining and was locally known for his fine barbeque and 
fried fish. He enjoyed the holiday seasons volunteering to fry 
turkeys for any neighbor or friend that dropped by. Danny also had a 
woodworking shop and enjoyed making special pieces of furniture for 
others, especially for his two daughters. Danny shared his passion 
for gardening with others by planting enough vegetables in his garden 
to share with community members. Living life to its fullest and 
loving people was Danny’s way. He was a walking testament of his 
faith and he leaves behind for his family the gift of the joy of 
knowing he is finally home and fully well again.
Danny is survived by his loving and supporting wife of 40 years, 
Ophelia Rowe Braswell, two devoted daughters and their husbands, 
Delia B. (Chip) Mobley of Statesboro, Lisa B. (Mike) Bohannon of 
Guyton; grandsons, Danny James Bohannon and Wesley Hyland Bohannon; 
his parents, Eugene and Imogene Braswell of Bryan County; four 
sisters, Dianne (James) Lamb of Brunswick, Dale (Kenny) Holcombe of 
Bloomingdale, Darlene (David) Conley of Pembroke and Debbie Holcombe 
of Bryan County; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Funeral: 2 p.m. on Friday in the chapel of the funeral home with Dr. 
David Hooks and Dr. Lawrence Butler officiating. Active pallbearers 
will be Carroll Thompson, Rocky Reed, Lynn Parker, Brent Conley, Mike 
Davis and Roger Butler. Honorary Pallbearers will be Danny’s Bell 
South co-workers, members of the Golden Bells Sunday School Class and 
Tad Bentley. Entombment will follow at Bulloch Memorial Gardens with 
Dr. Charles Houston and Mr. Perry Langston officiating. Military 
Honors will be rendered at the cryptside.
Remembrances may be given to the Pembroke Holy Church of God Building 
Fund.

Adam Keller
Savannah-Adam Keller, 36, died on Monday, April 28, 2008.
Adam was born in Savannah and was a member of Savannah Christian 
Church. He was the owner/operator of Keller’s Firewood and also 
worked in the family business, Keller’s Flea Market. He enjoyed 
racing car #9 at Oglethorpe Speedway.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Keller of Citra, FL; children, 
Carson Adam Keller of Citra, FL and Logan Anderson, Grantsboro, NC; 
mother and step-father, Pat & Roy Borden of Asheville, NC; father and 
step-mother, Hubert & Cheri Keller of Savannah; brother and sister-in-
law, Hubert & Vicki Keller, Jr. of Pooler; two sisters and brothers-
in-law, Miranda & Kyle Johanson of St. Petersburg, FL and Julia 
Wilson and Hassan El Moutamid of Brooklyn, NY; grandmother, Jean 
Keller Fair of Savannah; two nephews, one niece and aunts, uncles and 
cousins.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Graveside Funeral: 11 a.m. on Friday at Hopeton Plantation Cemetery 
on the Keller family property off of Little Neck Road.
